Projects > Pipe Ramming Project
Name: Tampa Bay Water Project - Tampa, FL
Owner: City of Tampa, Florida
Engineer: Parsons Brunkenhoff
Pipe Ramming Sub Contractor: Ballast Nedham Construction, Inc., Tampa, FL
Pipe Size : 789 feet of 120" O. D. Permalok Steel Casing

The Problem:
Installing a large diameter intake pipe while maintaining minimal disturbance to surrounding railroads, businesses and vehicular traffic.

The Solution:
Ballast Nedham decided to drive the host pipe with a modified IHC S-90 offshore hammer. They used Permalok 120" O. D. Casing to complete the task. The size of the pipe, along with the lengths of the drives, made this project the largest horizontal driving job ever completed. In 2002, Trenchless Technology recognized the project as an Honorable Mention in Project of The Year Competition for New Installation.
